Massachusetts Gun Laws & Firearms Safety Practice Exam

In Massachusetts, local police departments are responsible for issuing firearm licenses. While the Massachusetts State Police may assist with the process or have some involvement, they are not solely responsible for issuing these licenses. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is a federal agency and is therefore not responsible for issuing licenses at the state level. The Department of Natural Resources also does not have jurisdiction over firearm licenses in Massachusetts.
